role play forum rules

Role play posts must be of a minimum quality.
All role play posts must follow The S*T Standard. This is the minimum quality and length allowed in any single post in any role play.

Act courteously toward your fellow role players.
Think of every role play you enter into as a commitment of sorts. Please try to avoid keeping your partners waiting, or bolting all together without informing them. It’s important to be up front and honest about things such as how long you take to post, how many other role plays you’re juggling, and how easily you may lose interest.

Respect every style of role playing.
Some of our members enjoy writing shorter posts at a swift pace, while others prefer a slower pace with long, novel-like posts. It's important to remember that both of these styles are legitimate and require skill; neither is better than the other in any way. If a certain style bothers you, keep this in mind when picking your role playing buddies, as under NO CIRCUMSTANCE may you attempt to force your style on someone else! S*T prides itself upon allowing a free-reign environment for everyone.

All role plays must have a rating attached to their title.
Our rating system is more-or-less ripped off that of the MPAA. All ratings are accepted, but they have to be put into the title of your roleplay. Please visit the Role Play Rating page for more details.

Emoticons are so very, very banned!
It’s laughable we even need to mention this, but no, you may NOT use emoticons in your role plays! Are we respectable writers here or not?

X-Rated role plays are allowed in the Graduate Role Play Forums ONLY.
We do not want to give the wrong impression to Students and to the rest of the staff. If you would like to create an X-Rated role play, you must find a specific partner that agrees with this style of role playing and do it in the Graduate Role Play forums. Do not threaten the rest of our forums with it.

role play etiquette

Keep OOC in Role Play Discussion
Posting OOC notes inside of RP posts is all right every once in a blue moon, if it it's short and simple. However, a whole post should not be devoted to just OOC comments. OCC really should be used in the discussion board. That's why there is a discussion board. This is to make sure that the RP doesn't look messy and there aren't random breaks in it, which can cause the reader to lose interest in your RP.

Private role plays
All role plays are marked private by default. This means that before entering an RP that isn't marked as OPEN, you will have to ask the members of the role play before you join it. This goes for both Student and Graduate RPs.

Creating an OOC thread
Though it is not required, it is good to have an OOC thread to go along with your role play. It gives potential participants a chance to read your plot, create characters, and get to know one another. Also, it gives the participants a place to plot throughout the role play.

Joining a role play
Role plays are considered private by default, unless otherwise stated. If a role play is marked as “open”, one should still ask before jumping into the role play. This way, it is less likely that the role play will be interrupted. You can ask the creator of a role play to join either through a PM or an OOC thread.

staying behind

Once you graduate, it is important to continue to follow all the role play rules. The Role Play Moderators keep an eye on the Role Play Forums and make sure the standards are being upheld. If you get in trouble for not following our quality checks, you can be demoted back down to a Student!
